This is my attempt to build the ultimate Indiana deer rifle. As per legislature passage on May 22 of 2007, Deer can be hunted with a rifle firing a cartridge .35 caliber or larger and a case less than 1 5/8 inches long. My design is based on a 25 Winchester super short Magnum case that has been necked to .358 and reformed with a 40-degree shoulder. The rifle is a stainless steel Winchester controlled round feed short action that has been modified to handle the truncated round. The stock has been fashioned from a modified Winchester featherweight stock that I made into a pattern that Mike Kokolas turned for me. The lumber is exhibition grade Turkish walnut from Murat Ergin at Hunterbid.com and the bottom metal is from Williams firearms. The scope bases are from Dennis Olsen and the rings are Conetrol with a Leupold 2.5x8 scope mounted. The current barrel will be replaced with a Super Match grade Pac-Nor on the same contour. Dave Manson is grinding the reamer for me and I will have CH4D make up a set of loading dies. |
