A quick search will turn up many invitations to visit Africa for the Safari of your dreams. Most of these people are hard working, honest outfitters trying to make a living off of their land. Some are not. To be quite frank, a truly successful Safari is the result of a lot of effort by quality people and on excellent property. There are a lot of other factors involved but these can never be slighted. Often times “freelancers” will offer deals on Safaris using nomenclature like “I grew up around here and can hunt several farms, no problem”. Sure you think, it’s great to have someone with connections! What a deal! The truth of the matter is normaly a bit different. If a farm is offering hunting then they are not running cattle on it and they still need to make a profit. For several decades Africans have known that you can make a living from wildlife and to be quite honest, if you shoot an animal on their property they will charge the outfitter. It would be very similar if I took a cow from the farmer down the road from me, he would expect cash compensation. This is his livelihood. Often times “connections” break down and freelancers or outfitters loose hunting areas. Often times prices are cut too get a hunter to front a deposit then the outfitter shops around for the cheapest farms too hunt. The cheapest are almost never the most productive or for the best trophies. Typicaly the best game lands are the ones with the best conservation record over time and this takes manpower as well as money. This is what we have to offer. |
